Ergonomic Evaluation of Conventional Rural Flour Mills in India: Challenges and Recommendations

Abstract

This study takes a close look at the ergonomic challenges faced by operators of traditional rural flour mills in India. By employing the Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) method, it uncovers that these workers are dealing with significant ergonomic risks, primarily due to awkward postures, repetitive tasks, and long hours of standing. The graphical analysis clearly shows that the lower back, shoulders, and knees are under considerable stress. Moreover, the research points out that airborne flour dust pose a serious respiratory threat, backed by both observational and graphical evidence. The results highlight an urgent need for ergonomic improvements, awareness initiatives, and redesigning workspaces to boost the safety and well-being of these operators.
