This overview focusses on recent developments, in the most part triggered by LHC data, aimed at the development of a reliable and complete theoretical description of high-pt physics in heavy ion collisions. Particular emphasis is placed on the understanding of the underlying in-medium dynamics as a prior to the use of high-pt observables as detailed probes of the QCD matter created in the collisions.
