J/ψ production off nuclei: a detour from SPS to LHC

We present a collection of selected phenomena observed in J/ψ production from proton-nucleus and heavy ion collisions at energies, ranging between the SPS and LHC. The emphasis is placed on the related theoretical ideas or techniques, which are either not widely known, or offer an alternative explanation to the observed nuclear effects.
