The GlueX experiment at Jefferson Lab (Newport News, VA USA) is designed to explore the spectrum of mesons up to about 3 GeV. We present results on the production of light-quark resonances with linearly polarized photons. These results enhance our understanding of photoproduction mechanisms, which is valuable in subsequent searches for exotic hybrid mesons. Measurements of the J/ψ photoproduction cross section at threshold are also presented.
