The detection of prompt fission gamma-rays and Tl-208 decay gamma-rays, which are unique to nuclear materials, could be applied to sorting nuclear fuel debris and radioactive waste from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. To confirm its technical feasibility, particle transport calculations using the Monte Carlo N-Particle code were performed.
