Free-space terahertz signal is encoded onto an optical signal probing the absorption of CdSe/CdS core/shell quantum dots, utilizing quantum-confined Stark effect. The demonstrated ultrafast electro-absorption modulation could support Tbit/s data rates with extinction ratio exceeding 6 dB. © 2024 The Authors.
