Abstract
We have developed a model able to describe the experimentally observed activity behavior of 2D neuronal cultures as the coupling between neurons varies. As [Ca2+] in the medium increases, a gradual transition occurs from an asynchronous state in which neurons behave as independent oscillators, to a synchronous state where bursts of collective activity appear.
