Using the above-barrier fusion probabilities of Berriman and the appropriate extra-push energies, we re-investigate the quasi-fission dynamics of reactions leading to the compound nucleus 220Th. A consistent description is obtained in terms of the entrance-channel barriers that are known to determine the initial capture process. The different dynamical deformations that give rise to these barriers significantly influence the potential-energy landscapes onto which the captured system is injected.
